Level 3 Health and Social Care
Full time course
This qualification is designed to enable learners to access higher education upon successful completion or progress into the workplace. The qualification is structured to allow learners to pursue interest in specific areas of social care, health studies and health sciences whilst still allowing for a diversity of options to maintain a broad range of progression opportunities.
What will I study?
Modules studied may include safeguarding in health and social care, infection prevention and control, psychological perspectives, sociological perspectives, reflective practice and communication in health and social care.
Maths & English
All learners must have a grade C or above in Maths and English to enrol on the level 3 programme. Functional Skills are embedded within the curriculum and learners are fully prepared for HEI entrance exams.
Learners who complete the Level 3 Certificate can progress to apprenticeships and employment within the HSC sector.
Learners who complete the Level 3 Extended Diploma can progress to study different types of nursing, midwifery, social work, youth work, radiography, paramedic science and youth work at HE level. Other HE routes include sociology, psychology and law.
Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours are:
Certificate: 75 hours
Extended Diploma: 175 hours (includes the 75 hours completed during the Certificate).
Opportunity to complete first aid and sign language qualifications.
What do I need to join?
Five GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above, including English language, maths and science. An acceptable DBS clearance and academic reference. Applicants will also need to successfully pass a taster day and a 6-week probationary period.
How will I learn?
Students will have a mix of classroom and work-based learning, which will include presentations, role play, group work, practical activities, guest speakers and assignment work. Support will be provided online and face-to-face. There will be opportunities to visit care providers during the year.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will be continuously assessed through your assignment tasks. Assignments are set throughout the year, so you will know how well you are doing with regular one-to-one feedback from your tutor.
What can I do next?
Successful completion of this qualification will allow learners to progress to higher education in a related field, gain employment in the sector or progress into an apprenticeship.
