How will I know how I am doing?
At the end of the year, your practical skills will be assessed through a synoptic end test. You will also take a multiple-choice theory exam. Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor throughout the year, and you will receive regular feedback and one-to-one progress reviews with your tutor to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals.
What do I need to join?
You will have GCSEs at grade 2 or above, which must include at least a 2 and a 3 in Maths and English.
Maths & English
Learners with a grade 3 in Maths and English are required to retake the qualification, and this will be taught alongside their vocational qualification. Learners with a grade 2 or below in Maths or English will study functional skills alongside their vocational qualification.
In addition to obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience, learners will also develop other skills, such as interview techniques, CV preparation and digital skills, to prepare them for the world of work. Learners will participate in trade competitions judged by local employers and participate in cross-college employability events.
All learners are required to complete work experience in a construction environment. This could be with local construction companies or as part of a community project. This gives learners the opportunity to develop their employability and practical skills in their chosen trade and will assist with their progression choices.
What can I do next?
After successful completion, you can progress onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plumbing. Alternatively, entry to an apprenticeship can be gained if suitable employment is found.
