Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

This one -year Level 3 programme is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels and is aimed at providing learners with the key underpinning knowledge required to progress into further study, employment in the industry or an apprenticeship.

Modules studied include: exploring business, recruitment and selection, digital marketing, retail business and customer service.

This Level 3 course is based at our Filton campus, located in South Gloucestershire which is easily accessible from the city of Bristol by train (Bristol Parkway / Bristol Abbey Wood) and bus.

How will I know how I am doing?

A variety of assessment methods will be used to measure progress from a learner's starting point and against their expected outcomes and target grades. These may include practical tasks and assessments, written assignments, performance reviews, presentations and discussions and exams. Progress will be discussed with tutors on the programme.

What do I need to join?

Learners will need to possess four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including both English and Maths.

Maths & English

A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths. Learners who are enrolled on this programme of study will be provided with opportunities to continue to use the skills they gained previously whilst achieving grade 4 in both English and Maths, and to apply their understanding to business scenarios.

Employability

At SGS, we aim to provide learners with the skills required to progress into further study and training or employment upon completion of their chosen programme of study. Key attributes required by employers are that individuals be enthusiastic, motivated, presentable (in some instances in company uniform), organised, articulate, able to think 'outside the box', business-like and enterprising, and that they have a 'can-do' attitude. At SGS, we work with you on all these areas throughout the duration of your programme of study, and your tutor(s) will provide feedback on progress made, as well as any areas for future development.

Work Experience

As part of their overall programme of study, learners are required to undertake a period of work placement related to the field of employment they wish to enter. Our Work Placement Team will assist learners in gaining a placement and ensure that opportunities to practice necessary skills required for a future career are available at college.

What can I do next?

Learners who successfully complete this programme will be eligible to progress onto Level 3, Year 2, at the end of which they will possess a qualification equivalent to three A-levels. Learners may wish to pursue a route into higher education, undertake further training and education or an apprenticeship, or alternatively gain employment in the industry.
