Embark on an exciting journey of self-discovery and artistic growth with our Intermediate Ceramics course. Guided by our experienced tutor, you'll have the freedom to explore your own creative path while receiving support and challenges along the way.
How will I learn?
As an intermediate student, you'll have the opportunity to further develop your skills and knowledge by tackling technical challenges with the guidance of your tutor. You'll be encouraged to engage in independent research, exploring historical and contemporary influences as part of your "homework." Our well-stocked library and classroom offer a vast selection of specialist books and magazines to enrich your learning experience.
Previous work
Entry Requirements
To join the intermediate classes, some previous experience in ceramics is required. This can be obtained through our beginners' class or from elsewhere. Experimentation is highly encouraged, and the course provides access to electric kilns for earthenware, gas-fired kilns for stoneware, and alternative firing processes. If you're unsure about your eligibility, feel free to check with us. Unlock your creative potential, expand your ceramic repertoire, and take your skills to the next level. Join our Intermediate Ceramics course and embrace the freedom of self-directed exploration in a supportive and inspiring environment. Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the start of the academic year, to attend this course.
Additional Information
In addition to the course fee, learners will also be charged a separate weigh and pay fee, for the items that they make. This fee covers the use of the kiln and is based on the weight of the item(s) that have been made during the course. This cost varies from a few pounds to a £100 plus. Below are the current charges for the different clays used: Specialist Clays (Porcelain, Paper-Clay, Black clays) = £7 per Kg Utility Clays (Smooth White S/W, St Thomas S/W, Crank, White E/W, Red E/W) = £6 per Kg Lustre: Will incur and addition cost of £2 per piece of work A more detailed breakdown can be supplied on request.

Course fees explained
The course fee is usually broken down into three components which are materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and exams. Depending on age, financial circumstances and a number of other factors, you could be asked to pay the full fee or just elements of it. Usually Learners under 19 studying Full-Time courses have just material fees, and if relevant, Academy fees, to pay. Over 19s on Full-Time or Part-Time courses usually have materials, exams and tuition fees to pay.
