  • Structural carpentry
  • Non-structural carpentry prior to plastering
  • Non-structural carpentry following plastering
  • Timber technology and the use of a circular saw
  • In addition, you will complete practical-based training in the form of work experience and employer-led projects.

To gain this qualification, learners must successfully achieve:

As well as having a keen interest in the subject area, learners will need to possess GCSE grade 4 and 3 in English and Maths (either way). Learners will need to be committed, punctual and demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and taking on new ideas and skills.

    English and Maths

A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths. Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.

This Technical Level 2 course at Stroud campus includes mandatory content covering the principles of construction, structural carpentry and non-structural carpentry both before and after plastering. You'll also study timber technology and learn to use a circular saw effectively. In addition to this theoretical knowledge, you'll engage in practical training through work experience and employer-led projects.

To earn the qualification, learners must complete one externally set and moderated practical assignment, pass one externally set and marked exam under formal conditions, and meet the employer involvement requirement.

What do I need to join

In addition to having a strong interest in the subject area, you need to have at least a GCSE grade 4 in both English and Maths. You should be committed, punctual and enthusiastic about learning and adopting new ideas and skills.

Employability
We aim to provide you with the skills required to be able to progress into further study and training or employment upon completion of your programme of study. Key attributes required by employers are that individuals be enthusiastic, motivated, presentable (in some instances in company uniform), organised, articulate, able to think 'outside the box', business-like and enterprising, and that they have a 'can-do' attitude. We work on all these areas throughout the duration of your programme of study, and your tutor(s) will provide feedback on progress made, as well as areas for development.
