This Level 2 qualification is a one-year course and is aimed at those looking to work in the construction industry specifically as a craftsperson in bricklaying. A bricklayer has the skills and knowledge to build or repair walls in accordance with construction plans. They may also build or refurbish arches or other structures, so they are an important part of any construction team. You will study the following mandatory content:
In addition, you will complete practical-based training in the form of work experience and employer-led projects.
To achieve the qualification, you need to complete one externally set and moderated practical assignment and pass an externally set and marked exam under formal conditions. Additionally, there is a requirement for employer involvement to ensure real-world experience.
What do I need to join?
As well as having a keen interest in the subject area, learners will need to possess GCSE grade 3 and 2 in English and Maths (either way). Ideally, learners will have completed a Level 1 qualification in brick or be able to demonstrate knowledge of the trade and complete a skills assessment. Learners will need to be committed, punctual and demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and taking on new ideas and skills.
A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths.
Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on GCSE English and Maths Functional Skills in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.
This Techniqual Certificate covers essential content including the principles of construction, building cavity walls and constructing solid walls and piers. You will also study basic construction techniques. Alongside this theoretical knowledge, you will gain practical experience through work placements and employer-led projects.
