Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

You will study the programme over one year, with friendly and supportive teaching staff. It is an intensive course which aims to help you build the skills and knowledge you need to achieve grade 4 (C) or above in specific subjects. The GCSE programme requires a lot of self-motivation and commitment, but in return we'll be there with you every step of the way. Your future is important to us! We also have a 2-year option for pre-16 home educated learners. How will I know how I am doing?

You will be taught English language, maths, biology, citizenship along with a fifth optional option of history, which will support applications and is required by universities and employers to help set you up for any future career. You will have an assessment at the beginning of the year to ensure that this is the correct course for you.

What do I need to join?

You don't need to have taken GCSEs before to do this course. Whether you want to retake your GCSEs or you have been home-schooled, you are welcome to apply for this course.

How will I learn?

This course is based at our Stroud campus in the centre of Gloucestershire, surrounded by the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The campus is a short walk from Stroud train station and easily accessible by bus.

What can I do next?

After successfully completing the course, there are a number of options available to you, including: • A-levels • Apprenticeships • BTECs • Employment • Foundation degrees • HNC/HNDs • Internships • NVQs For most UK universities, a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grade 4 (C) or above (including English and Mathematics) are a mandatory requirement.

The course fee can usually be broken down to three components which are Materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), Tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and Exams.
