Discussions on Identity: It's not just Black & White with Ronnie McGrath
Information Dates and EnrolmentSummary
Join Ronnie McGrath in an engaging and thought-provoking course, "Discussions on Identity: It's Not just Black and White." This course is designed for individuals seeking to critically examine the complexities of race and identity in today's media-driven world. Through weekly discussions, personal anecdotes, and analysis of popular culture, written texts, and selected documentaries, you will gain a deeper understanding of how identities are formed, revised, and influenced. You will explore the concept of cultural visibility as both a measure of progress and a means of celebrating and constraining identity expressions. By the end of the course, you will possess the necessary language and key concepts to articulate and engage in discussions on how identity shapes the body and influences group affiliation.
How will I learn?
Teaching will take place through onsite discussions, lectures, and documentary screenings. Our aim is to create a safe and inclusive environment that respects diverse viewpoints. Participants are expected to engage in honest, deep, and meaningful discussions, while showing respect for others. Individuals intentionally seeking to offend based on race, class, gender, religion, disability, or sexuality will be asked to leave. While not compulsory, participants are encouraged to deliver a ten-minute presentation on an aspect of their own identity, fostering self-reflection and personal growth.
