SGS College | Be Outstanding

Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Welcome Fest

WelcomeFEST is the name of our induction period at SGS College and was launched in September 2021. The event provides learners with a range of activities to get involved in alongside their on-course induction period. WelcomeFEST is made up of five elements including;

Team Building and Fun Activities

The Course Voice of the Learner provides learners with an opportunity to discuss their experiences at different levels of the College.

Initial Assessment

Learners will undertake initial assessments to identify their starting points for their course. These include the JISC Self-Assessment which measure learners Digital capabilities, the Professional Futures Career Pulse which measures learners career prospects and potential gaps. Whilst Century Tech measures learners starting point in relation to Maths & English enabling them to make a strong start on their chosen course.

Cross College Tutorials/Information

The learners will also be provided with all of the information they need to succeed at SGS College. This includes a Welcome from the Principal, the Campus Tours and Procedures and signing of the learner charter. Learners are also provided with an opportunity to meet all of the key people at the College including their Tutor, wellbeing mentor and work placement coach.

Freshers' Fayre

The Freshers Fayre at SGS College is one of the key dates in the SGS College diary. At SGS we run two events one at our WISE Campus and one at our Stroud Campus. The event provides learners with more opportunities to meet with charities, employers and universities with an opportunity to get involved in activities and also gain some important information.

Course Specific Induction

At SGS College all courses will undergo a course specific induction based on the needs of the learners and their course. One of the standout programmes for this is the Platform programme that the Bristol Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA) and Bristol Academy of Media (BAM) collaborate on.
