Join the Ceramics Introduction to Throwing course to learn or enhance your skills on the pottery wheel. This course is suitable for beginners as well as those looking to further develop their throwing abilities.The focus is on learning and improvement rather than creating finished pieces. Throughout the course, you will learn clay preparation, centering the clay, throwing basic forms, achieving good shape and consistency, and finishing your work through turning and trimming. Additionally, the course will introduce you to decorating slips and glazing techniques. You will have the opportunity to throw multiple pots and you will finish, decorate, and glaze at least one item by the end of the course. These selected pieces will be fired and available for collection.
How will I learn?
The course will provide hands-on experience on the pottery wheel, guided by the instructor. You will receive step-by-step instructions and demonstrations to learn and refine your throwing techniques. The emphasis is on practical skill development, allowing you to practice and improve your abilities throughout the course. The instructor will also introduce you to decorating techniques and glazing methods to enhance your finished pieces.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the start of the academic year. This course welcomes individuals with various levels of experience. Whether you are a complete beginner or have some prior experience with throwing, this course offers a supportive learning environment. The focus is on learning and improvement, so participants are encouraged to come with an open mind and a willingness to learn and practice.

Course fees explained
The course fee is usually broken down into three components which are materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and exams. Depending on age, financial circumstances and a number of other factors, you could be asked to pay the full fee or just elements of it. Usually Learners under 19 studying Full-Time courses have just material fees, and if relevant, Academy fees, to pay. Over 19s on Full-Time or Part-Time courses usually have materials, exams and tuition fees to pay.
