About the course
This one-year programme is designed for learners who wish to pursue a career as a painter and decorator in the construction industry.
Course content
The programme covers the following skills:
- Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
- Preparing surfaces for decoration
- Applying paint systems by brush and roller to non-complex areas
- Applying foundation and plain papers
- Producing specialist technical finishes
In addition to studying the above, learners will acquire an understanding of how to store and maintain equipment and materials, and how to keep themselves and others safe in a construction setting.
Maths & English
A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and maths.
Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled on either Functional Skills 1, 2, 3 or GCSE programmes in English and Maths in order to progress towards gaining GCSE grade 4 in both subjects.
What do I need to join
As well as having a keen interest in the subject area, learners will need to possess GCSE grade 2 in both English and Maths.
Learners will need to be committed, punctual and demonstrate an enthusiasm for learning and taking on new ideas and skills.
What can I do next
Learners who successfully complete will be eligible for progression onto a Level 2 programme of study or an apprenticeship in a related discipline.
