SGS College | Be Outstanding

Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

All communications includes vital information about getting started at SGS College. We recommend setting [email protected] as a safe email sending via your chosen email platform/app.

Full-Time Only

From April 2023, we will be contacting all Full-Time acceptances to invite them to join the College's Microsoft TEAMS site so that we can provide transition work through our 'Prepared' course materials. Helping learners feel better equipped for studying at SGS College. These materials will help learners gain a greater understanding of both the College and also the area of study applied for. In addition, when joining our TEAMS site, learners will also get to meet tutors and others on the course to help feel more connected before starting in September.

Interview Overview

A college interview is more like a discussion, so that you and the departmental staff can figure out if the course you have chosen is the right fit for you. We want you to enjoy your time studying and the opportunity to chat about this is an important part of the selection process at SGS College.

Usually only our Full-Time learners are requested to attend an interview. If you are asked to an interview there are some standard questions you should be ready to answer:

What do you know about the subject you are applying to study?

Why are you interested in this subject?

Why do you want to attend this college in particular?

What are your short-term and long-term goals?

Remember, the course tutor is not trying to trick you, they just want to hear that you are ready to take the next step in your studies and are making the right choice.

Please note, if you have an interview for one of the courses listed below you will need to prepare the following:

Art & Design courses

Please bring work from the last two years, showing your interest and skillset within any relevant creative fields. We would expect to see recent sketchbooks as well as final work as the stages of development, research and reflection are important to us. You may include both work you have done at school and work you have done in your own time.

Music courses

If you are able to play any kind of music or sing, we would like to hear a sample in the interview, though it is not a requirement to be currently able to play anything or sing to join the course.

Games Design courses

Whilst no portfolio is required for interview, if you have made any creative work relating to the field of games design such as game art, creative writing, audio design, 3d modelling or animation, we would love to see it.

Taster Sessions

Once you have been offered a conditional place you will be invited later in the year to come along to a taster session and experience college life.

This will allow you to take part in course activities and meet your tutors, as well as other future SGS learners.

Please note, if you have a Taster Session for one of the courses listed below you will need to prepare / bring the following:

Animal Science

  • Sensible clothing suitable for working with animals: full length trousers (no shorts), long or short sleeved t-shirt (no crop tops), enclosed footwear (wellies, work boots or trainers), no piercings or jewellery (new piercings can be covered with tape) and long hair tied back.
  • A pen and notepad

If you require any additional support or adjustment for your Taster Session, please email [email protected]
