Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery
Full time course
If you have an eye for detail, good maths skills for working out measurements and the ability to follow technical plans, a career in carpentry could be perfect for you. This programme covers the basics of wood work fixtures and fittings. Learners will also cover the health and safety aspects of working in a workshop as well as the proper preparation and maintenance of the tools that you will use on a daily basis. Learners will have the opportunity to produce high quality work in an industry-standard workshop.

Maths and English:
Those that haven’t achieved Grade C or above in Maths and English will be given additional support to improve these skills.
In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience learners will also develop other skills such as interview techniques and CV preparation to prepare them for the world of work.
All courses include opportunities for learners to experience working in a construction environment. This gives the learner the opportunity to develop their skills in their chosen trade and assisit with progression choices.
What do I need to join?
You will need two GCSEs at grade 2 (E) or above, in English and maths. A short interview together with assessments in maths, English and trade skills will be necessary to ensure the level of the course is appropriate for you.
How long is the course?
1 year with attendance 2.5 days a week.
How will I learn?
Practical experience will be gained in the workshop, through practical activities and assessments and underpinning knowledge will be delivererd in the classroom and IT suite where study will be interactive and informative.
How will I know how I am doing?
Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor and you will receive regular feedback and one to one reviews with your tutor to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals.

What can I do next?
After successful completion, you can progress to Level 2 Site Carpentry. Alternatively, entry to an apprenticeship can be gained if suitable employment is found.
What are my career opportunities?
There are many different specialist roles within the industry. Employers will be looking for a minimum of level 2 NVQ or an apprenticeship at an equivalent level.
This course provides an excellent foundation upon which to build a career within the construction industry.
