Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

The Early Years Educator apprenticeship focuses on the expected patterns of children’s development from birth to 5 years as well as the developmental aspects of ages 5-7. It also includes the importance to children’s holistic development of: - speech, language and communication, personal, social and emotional development as well as physical development. The potential effects of, and how to prepare and support children through, transitions and significant events in their lives is an imprtant subject matter as is the Early Years curriculum in learning how to develop young children through their foundation stages. With additional experience, an Early Years Educator can become the manager of an early years setting Individuals will undergo all the checks as per the EYFS requirements to ensure suitability to work with children. "

How will I learn?

The course will be predominently work-based with some college attendance.

Entry Requirements

Individual employers will set the selection criteria, but this is likely to include Maths and English at Grade 3, (D) or above.

What can I do next?

Progression can include the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard or the Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Standard

What are my career options?

Early Years Educators, and other job roles such as nursery nurse and childminders, are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre schools, reception classes and as childminders. They may either be working on their own or supervising others to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old

Course fees explained

The course fee can usually be broken down to three components which are Materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), Tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and Exams. Depending on age, financial circumstances and a number of other factors you could be asked to pay the full fee or just elements of it. Usually Learners under 19s studying Full-Time courses have just Material fee costs to pay, over 19s on Full-Time or Part-Time courses usually have materials, exams and tuition fees to pay.
