Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

The UAL Awarding Body Level 2 Award in Art and Design has been developed to provide students with an interest in creativity, art and design with the opportunity to explore different creative disciplines, materials, methods, processes and introduce theoretical skills that underpin creative practice. This course is also a potential stepping stone into further progression Arts studies for students wishing to progress into further education in the future, such as Access to HE level 3 Art and Design. 

This course is intended to provide students with an early test of their commitment, motivation and interest in the subjects of art and design. It also provides an opportunity for to explore and develop skills, knowledge and understanding of arts practice.

How will I learn?

Throughout the course, students will engage in a series of practical projects and critical studies, guided by experienced tutors who are passionate about the subject and dedicated to nurturing students' artistic growth.  Students will develop their practical skills and expand their own creative responses to a brief. 

The first ten weeks of the course are focused on skills workshops, learning different creative practices, skills and techniques informed by research. The second part of the course, students will be responding to a creative brief and using the techniques and skills they have learnt to create a visual portfolio of work and knowledge.

No previous experience is required, all we ask is that students have an Interest in creativity, art and design, and be willing to explore different materials and methods.

Additional Information

This course can be free for students who are on certain benefits or a low income, you may also claim for a bursary for the material costs of £90; for those that are not eligible for a fee waiver, the course is co funded which means the total costs will be £340 this includes the material costs.

We are running the course across 2 sites SGS Stroud campus and Ridgewood community centre in Yate.
