About the course

The Level 4 Diploma is designed to provide you with a strong foundation in procurement and supply. You will develop the knowledge and skills to analyse, interpret, and evaluate procurement processes and business needs while understanding ethical, legal, and practical considerations in the profession.

Course content

SGS College has been accredited as a CIPS Centre of Excellence with an Accredited Exam Centre.

The CIPS Level 4 Diploma comprises eight modules covering elements of procurement practice and business theory. The study level is equivalent to first-year degree studies and is suitable for those already in the Procurement industry.

The module covered in this schedule:

Scope And Influence Of Procurement And Supply - This module is designed using the CIPS Procurement Cycle as its basis. It will provide those who are interested in developing an informed awareness of different perspectives or approaches within the discipline with an overview of the key stages and compliance requirements associated with procurement and supply.

Defining Business Needs - This module is designed for those who are expected to analyse, interpret and evaluate information on the different types of markets utilised by procurement and supply. It explores a variety of elements that underpin the development of business cases and specifications.

Commercial Contracting - In any organisation, a significant element of the procurement and supply function is based around the contracting process. If they are to be successful, contracts must be clearly defined, aligned with legal requirements and contain key clauses and terms.

Ethical And Responsible Sourcing - This module explains options for sourcing, and examines the key processes that can be applied to the analysis of potential external suppliers to ensure sourcing arrangements meet sustainable, environmental, social and ethical goals.

Commercial Negotiation - This module enables the learner to analyse approaches to the negotiation of agreements made with external parties, how to prepare for them and what techniques are available to ensure successful outcomes.
Supplier Relationships -  This module is designed for those with responsibility for managing relationships with suppliers and other stakeholders, and those with the responsibility for establishing and developing formal partnership relationships
Whole Life Asset Management - Whole-life asset management considers the total cost of a product or service, from idea through to disposal including purchase, hire or lease, maintenance, operation, utilities, training and disposal.

Procurement And Supply In Practice - This module is designed to test the practical application of procurement and supply concepts and ideas within the practical environments in which professionals are expected to perform.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
Each module is timetabled throughout the year, which allows a flexible schedule to join the programme on the next module in-take. Classes are delivered one-day per week, on Thursdays, on site at the Filton campus. Following your class sessions, there will be an exam at the end of each module. After the exams has been complete, there will be a short break before starting the next module. Once enrolled, you will need to purchase your study guides and join CIPS as student members to be allowed to sit the exams.
What do I need to join (Entry Requirements)
To join the course, you require a good level of Maths & English. You will also need to have an interest in the topics discussed. The study level is equivalent to first-year degree studies and is suitable for those already in the Procurement industry, preferably with prior qualifications at Level 3 or above. Level 4 is the lowest permitted entry point for CIPS study, regardless of prior qualifications.

You can then take the next steps to progression onto Level 5 CIPS Advanced Diploma in Procurement & Supply. Making your way through to level 6.
