Stained Glass - offsite (Star centre, Nelson Trust, stroud)
Make a beautiful stained glass panel. This course is suitable for the absolute beginner, no experience is necessary and those with some experience who want to develop their glass work.
Continuing students can develop all your craft skills, try out new techniques such as kiln fired glass painting and Fusing and copper foil and work on individual project work.
You can develop all your design and fabrication skills for leading or copper foil work as well as experiment with Fusing, Kiln fired glass paint/stain/enamels and etch frosting
What will I learn?
Beginners will be taken through a structured course, step by step, to include all stages essential in making a leaded stained glass panel. This will cover design, cut line drawings, selecting and cutting coloured glass, leading, soldering, cementing and finishing techniques.
Continuing students can develop their design and craft skills as well as try out new techniques e.g. Fusing, Copper foil, Kiln Fired glass painting
You will learn how to:
o Cut glass safely
o Shape glass to size with pliers
o Cut leads accurately
o Solder neatly
o Make a small piece of leaded stained glass
o Continuing students can experiment with new techniques
How will I learn?
You will be guided through your project with demonstrations at each stage. You will get lots of one to one support to help you make your beautiful glass panel. More experiences students will have the support and expertise of the tutor to take on larger more complex projects.
Do I need previous experience?
This course is suitable for complete beginners and also students who already have some experience of stained glass.
What can I do next?
You can enrol for the January Thursday evening All Levels course, or enrol on the Easter or Summer intensive Stained Glass course in 2016, as well as other arts courses at the college.
What should I bring to my first class?
A notebook and sturdy shoes (no open toe sandals). Any designs and doodles that you may want to develop to discuss with the tutor.
Are there any extra costs?
The finest materials are included in your fee to make a panel up to an A3 size. There is a wonderful range of beautiful glass for you to use on the courses as well as lead, solder, fusing glass, glass paints and sundries.
