About the Course

If you’re fascinated by the history of art and antiques, this is the course for you.  Find out how objects have shaped our lives, the influences of culture, society and technology on the way things look and discover more about the great designers of the past, from William Morris to Mary Quant.  During this course, we’ll cover 300 years in the history of design and decorative arts, from Rococo to Rock and Roll, the Picturesque to Punk and we’ll look in detail at key developments and events such as the Arts and Crafts movement, Modernism and Post-Modernism, the Great Exhibition and the Festival of Britain. The lectures are delivered in three term parts, but are stand-alone courses that do not need to be followed sequentially.
