Level 2 Catering and Hospitality

Full time course

Summary

This course covers all the duties to become a chef, advancing from basic cooking skills to a more in-depth view of preparing, cooking and developing as a chef. It follows on from the Level 1 course but starts to specialise in more advanced methods, including the preparation of fish, poultry and vegetables. You will also start to develop your own dishes and begin to experiment with more advanced skills, such as like bakery. You will also explore the importance of stock management, building teams and securing a safe working environment.

Maths and English

A key requirement to obtainingmany jobs is achieving a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade C will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside their main course.

Additional qualifications

You may also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications, such as a hospitality or customer service course.

Work experience

All students take part in a week's work experience within the  industry. We encourage and provide support to those who wish to gain experience  and can offer contacts to assist with arranging this.

Employability

During your time on this course, you will develop the skills that employers are really looking for, such as communication, numeracy, presentation skills, analysis, interpretation, application and the evaluation of information. 

What do I need to join?

You will need three GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, with Englishand maths being desirable.

Tuition Fees

Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course. If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement. If you are aged 19 or over, studying a Level 3-6 and a Level 3 Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the fees. Please contact the College directly for the most up to date fees – these may be subject to change.
