What will they learn:
The course consists of three units:
Understanding and producing non-fiction texts (reading and writing), which is assessed by means of an external exam.
Speaking & Listening which comprises three sections: Presentations, Discussion, and Role Playing. All three are subject to controlled assessment.
Understanding spoken and written texts and writing creatively. This consists of an extended reading module, a creative writing module and a spoken language study, all of which are subject to controlled assessment.
How will they learn:
The sessions are tutor-led with opportunity for practising skills in a supportive environment. You will also have ongoing weekly assignments to complete.
There are no set entrance requirements but you will need to be operating at a grade D level. You will be expected to have either a grade D in GCSE English in the last 4 years, a background in English or a previous course at level 1 or 2. All applicants for the course will be interviewed. Part of the interview will consist of an English initial assessment.
What they need to bring to their first class:
A pen, paper and a folder.
