Level 3 Complementary Therapies
Full time course
This Level 3 qualification provides a comprehensive background in complementary therapies and prepares the learner for employment in the industry upon completion of the qualification. Learners will develop a range of skills, underpinning knowledge, as well as the personal qualities and attitudes that are required to be a successful complementary therapist.The skills and knowledge gained on this qualification will allow learners to progress into the industry in a salon, spa, cruise ship or setting up your own business.
What will I study?
Modules covered may include aromatherapy, reflexology, body massage, reflective practice, health and safety and anatomy and physiology.
Maths and English:
You will be given the opportunity to improve and advance your skills in both subjects, enabling you to progress in your studies or career. For students who have a GCSE grade D or below in Maths, you will work to improve and achieve a grade C. You will study at a level suited to your knowledge and understanding.
The skills gained from this course will enable you to work in a spa, beauty salon, cruise ships, or even start up your own business.
At an extra cost and your tutor's discretion, there may be opportunities to increase your skills by opportunities throughout your programme.
You will discuss this with your tutor, however it would be good to gain work experience in this area through voluntary work or part time.
What do I need to join?
You will have three GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, and must have a suitable reference, good manual dexterity and verbal communication. A professional, mature and caring attitude is essential.
How long is the course?
The course runs for 1 year
How will I learn?
You will have a mixture of practical sessions in the salon and classroom based lessons teaching underpinning knowledge. You will be expected to perform demonstrations on models, other students and, once you are at a specific standard and ability, paying clients of the salon. You will also have the opportunity to go on residential trips visiting specialised shows and establishments.
How will I know how I am doing?
You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments, assignments and written examinations. You will also work with members of the general public who visit our salons and often provide feedback about their treatments. Regular reviews with your tutor will provide you with feedback on your progress.
Are there any extra costs?
Material Fees will be due at enrolment. There will be extra costs for uniform, kit and optional trips. As previously mentioned, there may be costs for any additional courses you choose to do.
What can I do next?
You may enter employment or further your studies by taking, for example, a foundation degree in complementary therapy or a qualification in sports massage, physiotherapy or another specialist therapy.
What are my career options?
Completion of this qualification will provide you with career opportunities such as work in a complementary therapies practice, mobile spa/ therapist, cruise liners, beauty salon and in the hospice/care home environment.
