Summary

This qualification will allow you to develop your interest in the environment and countryside sectors of the land-based industries. It is an opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance for working in this sector.

What will I study?

  • Work-related experience in the land-based industries
  • Environmental and land-based business
  • Introduction to Environmental Studies
  • Conservation and improvement of British habitats
  • Undertaking ecological surveys and techniques
  • Introduction to urban habitat ecology

Maths and English

Opportunities to improve English and Maths is embedded within the programme.

What do I need to join?

You need English and science at grade 4 (grade C), and maths and one other subject at grade 3 (grade D).

How long is the course?

1 year.

How will I learn?

In addition to the academic theory, you will learn from college sessions, as well as gaining significant practical experience in an appropriate environmental setting. This practical experience can be gained through voluntary work placement or paid employment.

How will I know how I am doing?

Learners will discuss their own SMART targets with their personal tutor and. In order to review progress, learners will meet regularly with their personal tutor and feedback on assessments will be provided by teaching staff.

Are there any extra costs?

Learners will be charged materials fees, which will be used to purchase resources to use on the course (inclusive of PPE), to facilitate educational study visits and support the learning taking place.

What can I do next?

On completion of the qualification, you will be able to apply for the Level 3 Subsidiary or 90 Credit Diploma in Countryside Management. Alternatively, you can to apply for a range of apprenticeships in the sector or go into employment.

What are my career options?

Work in the areas of environmental conservation or ecology. Employment opportunities could include Countryside Management, Wildlife Conservation or Environment Protection.

Tuition Fees

Between the ages of 16-18 you do not need to pay tuition or exam fees for your course. If you are between the ages of 19 and 23 and have not achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification before, you will not need to pay tuition, exam or material fees using the Level 2 or 3 Entitlement. If you are aged 19 or over, studying a Level 3-6 and a Level 3 Entitlement does not apply, you will need to pay the full cost of the course. You may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the fees. Please contact the College directly for the most up to date fees – these may be subject to change.
