Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Floristry Practical Level 1

Learn the basics of floristry with a creative approach & sustainable sensibilities. Suitable for complete beginners, hobbyists & those with previous floral experience. This course will equip you with the fundamentals of floristry including care, handling & conditioning of flowers, elements of design and how to use them, colour theory, curating a floral palette & materials to help style your arrangements & compositions, even learning how best to photograph your designs. Using (foam free) techniques & mechanics from spiralling hand ties to larger scale installations. Including bouquet work, wiring, wedding installations, tablescapes, editorial designs, dried floral work and more. You will be set briefs to help bloom your creativity and push your design concepts. Going home with a varied portfolio of work as a showcase of your new skills. This course has a huge emphasis on finding your own floral style, harnessing inspiration and looking to the seasons to create work that pushes the standard take on floristry. About the tutor: Emma is a florist of 7+ years and runs the floral design studio ‘Thistle by Nature’ With varied experience across retail floristry & events, her approach to floral design is innately creative and led by the seasons with an emphasis on sustainability.

How will I learn?

You will learn with hands on tasks, being set briefs similar to those when working in the floral industry. You will also be led in theory based learning and take on research projects to inform your practical work.

This course is based at our Stroud campus in the centre of Gloucestershire, surrounded by the Cotswold Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. The campus is moments away from Stroud train station and easily accessible by bus.
