Through a series of short demonstrations and workshops, students will develop decorative surfaces, exploring colour with slips and glazes, and experience a range of hand-building techniques, throwing, glazing and raku firing. Studying historical and contemporary influences is advised for ‘homework’, supported by the wide selection of specialist books and magazines found in the library and classroom. Students will have access to electric kilns for earthenware and gas-fired kilns for stoneware. Please keep some work for the Summer Art Leisure Exhibition if you wish to exhibit.
How will I learn?
In this workshop based course your tutor will always check your progress and help you with technical solutions. The class will participate in group evaluations through informal crits or ‘show-and-tell’ sessions.
No experience necessary. A notebook/sketchbook for recording ideas for your work and glazing details is advisable, plus a protective shirt.
