Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

SGS Plus

Enrichment

SGSPlus+ is the name for our tutorial, enrichment and work placement diploma that all full-time learners will complete within their study programme during their time at sgs college.

Here at the College learners will complete 36 hours of Enrichment. This will present a number of extra-curricular opportunities for you to get involved with. Some of these will be open to all students whilst other opportunities will be available for more course specific opportunities. The Enrichment at the College will help you to succeed both whilst with us here at SGS but also to prepare you for society once you leave SGS College.

As an SGS Ambassador you will be expected to act as a positive role model and represent the College in a variety of situations. You will work with current students and staff, visitors, prospective learners and their parents. Activities and jobs you can expect to be involved in include:

  • Open Events - Engage with visitors that attend the college, provide a warm welcome, escort visitors to relevant departments, give information and answer any questions visitors may have.
  • College Tours – Become a tour guide and escort visitors around the college campus, showcasing our facilities and taking people to various departments and subject specific areas.
  • Learner Induction Duties - Welcoming new learners to the college and providing a friendly face that can offer help and advice. Direct lost learners and help with any anxieties/queries they may have.
  • School visits with the Careers Team – Visiting locals schools including your own previous school in order to support the careers team share what SGS can offer to prospective learners. Support pupils with their transition to college and answer any questions they may have.
  • Marketing support - Help prepare event goodie bags, promote the college and collect event visitor feedback.

Performances by Bristol Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA)

BIPA is home to over 30 in-house productions a year in our own Olympus, Studio and Showcase theatres

As a learner at SGS you will have the opportunity to attend these live theatre performances. Watching theater can benefit the mind through promoting positive thinking and by helping audiences make sense of their emotions. It promises to be an awakening experience for sure! Tailored University Visits

At SGS we work closely with Future Quest to provide you with knowledge of higher education options and potential future pathways

As part of this process we offer tailored University visits relevant to your subject area. You will travel to a chosen university and spend the day exploring and experiencing Uni Life through taster sessions, campus tours and talks. Enrichment Badging

At SGS College learners can gain badges based on the number of hours of Enrichment that they complete through the year.

Learners can gain a Bronze Badge for 10 Hours, Silver for 20 Hours, Gold for 36 Hours and Platinum for 54 Hours of Enrichment. Learners gain Enrichment hours through a number of ways, engaging with their on-course Enrichment, The Students Union activities or The Big Debate activities as part of their on-going development.
