Apprenticeship Summary

During the first year of your apprenticeship you will attend college on a weekly basis, and when not at college you will work across the 4 main areas of our supply chain business in 6 month placements.

Throughout the course of your apprenticeship you gain experience in the following areas: ·

  • Planning & Inventory Management
  • Strategic Sourcing
  • Operational Procurement
  • Logistics & Warehousing

As part of your apprenticeship you will learn how to do the following as part of your day to day job:

  • Place purchase orders with suppliers, utilising the business ERP system
  • Issue requests for quotations (RFQs) to suppliers and collate responses
  • Manage supplier order books and expedite deliveries
  • Understand and implement lean methodology

Desired qualifications

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher (or equivalent).

GCSE English and maths at grade B/6 or higher 3 A Levels at grade B or above or an equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC at Merit or Distinction.

Applicants with HNC/HND or Higher Level qualifications are also eligible for this training opportunity in commercial procurement.

Future prospects

The aim of the apprenticeship is to prepare you for a permanent procurement and supply chain role working as an Assistant Buyer within Mission Systems. We are also committed to supporting further development of our ex-apprentices through further education and technical training.

Please ensure that you also check your junk/spam inbox for emails. If you are successful at this stage, you will then be invited to attend an interview with the employer.

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment. The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. From April 2021, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £4.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.

Commercial Procurement and Supply Higher Apprenticeship Standard:

You will be required to complete the following training:

  • A Diploma in Procurement and Supply Operations (Level 4) from CIPS with CIPS Mandatory units
  • Contexts of procurement and supply
  • Business needs in procurement and supply
  • Sourcing in procurement and supply
  • Negotiating and contracting in procurement and supply
  • Managing contracts and relationships in procurement and supply.

The Apprenticeship will be delivered by South Gloucestershire & Stroud College. You will be required to attend Filton Campus to complete the CIPS study days and Exams, however your project scope and report will be undertaken within the workplace on a 121 basis.

Supplementing your technical training is our two year Apprenticeship Development Programme which develops you further in areas like project management and team building
