Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

FTE Salary: Up to £21,768.00 (Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)

Actual Salary: Up to £16,167.55
Contract Type: Permanent, Part-Time, Term-Time only
Working Hours: 32.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (Job share considered)

SGS College has an exciting opportunity for a Learning Support Worker.

Are you passionate about supporting people with a moderate to profound learning disability to live full lives and realise their ambitions?

We are looking for a person with some knowledge and experience of supporting young people with MLD/SLD to join our SGS College Specialist Provision - The CHASE. You will play a key role in supporting tutors as they deliver an exciting and innovative curriculum for our growing provision. You will also work with the wider team as they develop our growing post 16 provision for young people who are working towards an Independent living or work skills pathway.  The CHASE team consists of 6 tutors and a team of dedicated In Learning Support Workers, along with therapy support staff who currently cater for 26 young people, all of whom have an Education Health Care Plan.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Under the specific supervision of the class tutor, to work with individuals and groups of learners to deliver learning programmes taking into account SEN additional requirements.
  • To prepare and maintain basic classroom resources and equipment as directed by the class tutor and assist the learners in their use.
  • To assist with the development of basic literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and to support their use in learning activities.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Have understanding and/or experience of supporting people with learning disabilities/ autism and or complex needs and or behaviours of concern
  • Effectively communicate with staff at all levels, professionals and families external to the College as well as with the students we support using communication aids as required
  • Have strong IT skills and able to manage own time and work under pressure
