Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

The SGS Life department has an exciting opportunity for a variable hour’s IT tutor. Working either in the Community or at the Bristol/Stroud campus, delivering Beginners IT, Intermediate IT, IT for Work and IT for ESOL courses. The tutor will be an experienced individual, suitably qualified with a proven track record of delivering IT courses with excellent delivery and administration skills.

The successful candidate will teach within our IT provision. This includes daytime, and evening. This role would suit someone with an understanding of adult learners and the ability to deliver innovative learning opportunities to meet their needs.

We welcome applications from experienced and newly qualified tutors, tutors with occupational expertise and experience and who can demonstrate their enthusiasm and have a desire to work with adult learners. Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deliver IT courses in the community to adults looking for employment, further development or just wanting to increase their IT skills
  • Deliver IT courses to adults where English is their second language
  • Maintain up to date and accurate learner and programme documentation including reviews, ILPs, registers and learner tracking
  • Assist with learner recruitment for the IT courses
  • To work closely with other Assessor/Tutors to support a group of learners in a learning environment

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent or have substantial relevant subject experience or occupational experience
  • Experience working with IT programmes
  • Experience in delivering qualifications to adults and administering the exam process
  • Have experience of working in a pressured environment to tight timescales and deadlines
  • The successful candidate will be patient, motivated, inspiring learning in the classroom, a self starter, organised, and have an excellent level of administrative and communication skills
