Covid Update

On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.

Updated guidance advises:

  • Adults with the symptoms of a respiratory infection, and who have a high temperature or feel unwell, should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people until they feel well enough to resume normal activities and no longer have a high temperature.
  • Children and young people who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can return to college when they no longer have a high temperature, and are well enough to attend.
  • Adults with a positive COVID-19 test result should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are most infectious. For children and young people aged 18 and under, the advice is 3 days.

For education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April:

  • Regular asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended in any education or childcare setting, including in SEND, alternative provision and children’s social care settings. Therefore, we will no longer be able to order test kits .

Summary

Have you always wanted a career in the Air Industry? Would you like to find out more about what it takes to be Cabin Crew? Our Level 2 course explores the exciting and rapidly changing world of Aviation. As a student, you will cover a broad range of subjects giving you the core skills needed to work in this sector allowing you to progress onto your chosen profession within this exciting industry. The coursework is designed to simulate the pressures and excitement of working as Cabin Crew for a commercial airline, the RAF or working as a Passenger Services Agent at Bristol Airport. We aim to prepare you to meet the expectations of employers within the air industry enabling you to find employment on completion of the course. During the course, you will gain experience and knowledge regarding the aviation industry, the different types of passengers you will encounter within the sector, and how to deal with their needs. Units that you will study include: · Working as Cabin Crew (On-Board) · Emergency Airline Procedures · Health and Safety in Aviation · Aviation Security · Aviation Communication · First Aid This Level 2 course is based at our Filton campus, located in South Gloucestershire which is easily accessible from the city of Bristol by train (Bristol Parkway / Bristol Abbey Wood) and bus.

How will I know how I am doing?

Learners receive feedback on all their work via our online virtual learning environment and through one- to-one tutorials. You will also have tangible experience of completing customer service role-plays with the use of our mock-up cabin, which are then used to put on a performance at an end graduation.

What do I need to join?

Applicants should be at least 18 years old or will be aged 18 before the end of the course (31st March 2023)

Maths & English

A key requirement to obtaining many jobs is achieving a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (grade C) will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside their main course.

Employability

Demand for travel is predicted to be higher than ever in 2022 – Jet2, easyJet and Wizz Air airlines have already started to recruit for summer 2021 and will need to meet demand for summer 2022. Learners on the Level 2 programme will develop skills in communication, presentation and writing as well as teamwork and creative thinking, in addition to the skills relating to specific aspects of study e.g., aviation terminology, emergency procedures etc.

Work Experience

The coursework is designed to simulate the challenges and excitement of working as Cabin Crew or Passenger Services Agents. We aim to replicate as closely as possible the atmosphere and expectations that a learner will find when they leave us and find employment in the working world. We work very closely with Swissport at Bristol Airport to attend training days where you will complete some practical assessments of the course and you will also have a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to train at British Airways training facilities at Heathrow Airport.

What can I do next?

Successful learners can find employment in the industry as you will be guaranteed an interview on completion of the course with Swissport at Bristol Airport who are one of the biggest ground handling agents worldwide. Or you may be interested in going to study Higher Education.

What are my career options?

Learners alternatively may wish to pursue careers within the RAF. You will have the opportunity to tap into the unique relationship we have with the RAF who will support you with the application process. The course is also a good grounding for all kinds of Cabin Crew and Aviation career paths. Communication, confidence, creative thinking, and teamwork are all skills developed on the course that are transferable to a broad range of employment opportunities. The course fee can usually be broken down to three components which are Materials (resources required to study the course, for example stationery, books and other equipment), Tuition (teaching, classroom etc) and Exams. Depending on age, financial circumstances and a number of other factors you could be asked to pay the full fee or just elements of it.
