About the course
Vocational Pathways is an all-rounder course designed to help learners develop the foundational skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to progress in education or employment. It offers a broad introduction to vocational areas, allowing learners to explore different sectors while building essential personal and employability skills. Learners will study a BTEC certificate in Vocational Studies at Level 1, where they will undertake units in Business, Design & Media and Hospitality & Tourism. The course will also encompass opportunities for developing independence and growth mindsets through the integration of projects, career focused activities and work experience!
Course content
The study programme will consist of a core BTEC qualification in Level 1 introductory certificate in Vocational Studies; GCSE English and Maths; mandatory tutorial sessions, Enrichment and Work Experience/Volunteering opportunities. Learners will undertake units in Business, Design & Media and Hospitality & Tourism.
Maths & English
A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and Maths. Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled onto GCSE English and Maths in our PROgression or Step4ward groups to focus on achieving the next grade up.
What do I need to join
As well as having a keen a willingness to learn, learners must possess a minimum GCSE grades 2 or 3 in both English and Maths. We will also ask you to complete an initial English and Maths assessment at the start of the year to gauge starting points
What can I do next
Learners who successfully complete the Vocational Pathway course will be eligible for progression onto a Level 2 programme in a vocational department in the wider college or enrol not GCSE Plus to access more GCSEs.
