This highly popular and exciting course will build skills and knowledge in all aspects of the performing arts industry. Learners will develop their musical theatre skills through technique classes in singing, jazz, ballet, tap and acting, and through a range of performance-based projects with guidance from industry-experienced tutors. You will also perform in at least three productions each year, including a major musical in one of our theatres.
How will I know how I am doing?
Coursework is set with structured, achievable targets and clear, regular feedback from your tutor. You will also discuss work as a student group and receive feedback from your peers.
What do I need to join?
Four GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English, as well as a merit at Level 2. Exceptional entry may be possible if a high level of skill in drama can be demonstrated. People over 19 without formal qualifications will be considered.
Maths & English
A key requirement for obtaining many jobs is to achieve a good standard of English and maths. Therefore, learners who do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (C) will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside their main course.
The performing arts and leisure industry is one of the few areas in the jobs market that has seen sustained levels of employment and even shown areas of growth in the present economic climate.
There is a work placement opportunity on the course, and learners can also perform in public productions in our two professional-standard theatres.
What can I do next?
You will be prepared for higher education courses at drama schools and universities, or for our Degree in Musical Theatre taught at the Bristol Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA), WISE Campus.
What are my career options?
It is expected that learners from this course will be suitably prepared to enter employment within the creative industries.
