About the course

Unleash your creativity with our Jewellery Making course at Bristol School of Art. This adult course is designed for anyone with an interest in jewellery design and craftsmanship, whether you are a complete beginner or looking to develop existing skills.

You will explore the process of designing and creating unique, wearable pieces using silver and a range of other materials, while building confidence in a supportive and creative workshop environment.

Course content

During the course, you will develop practical jewellery-making skills, including:

  • Saw piercing
  • Silver soldering
  • Surface texturing
  • Ring making
  • Chain making

As your skills progress, you may also explore:

  • Stone setting techniques
  • Designing and creating your own jewellery pieces
  • Working with a range of materials, including metals, wood, paper and plastics

Projects are tailored to suit your experience level, allowing you to build technical ability and creative confidence.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This is a 10-week, workshop-based course delivered in a practical studio setting.

Teaching includes:

  • Hands-on practical sessions
  • Live demonstrations
  • Individual support and guidance from the tutor
  • Group discussion and peer feedback

There is no formal assessment. Progress is measured through the development of practical skills, completion of project work, and ongoing feedback from your tutor and peers.

About the tutor

Maxine is a Bristol-based jeweller with over 15 years of experience in the jewellery industry. After graduating in Contemporary Craft & Material from Plymouth College of Art in 2009, she moved into teaching, combining her passion for craft with a commitment to sharing skills and knowledge.

She creates a welcoming and supportive learning environment where students can develop their creativity, build confidence, and enjoy the process of making jewellery by hand. Her teaching approach encourages both beginners and experienced makers to explore new techniques and realise their creative potential.
