About the course

If you're passionate about supporting individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), this online qualification is ideal for you. It covers key aspects of SEND, such as specific conditions, related legislation and how these conditions affect daily life. This course is valuable both personally and professionally, whether you want to deepen your knowledge, advance your career or help others affected by SEND.

Unit 1: Introduction to SEND

  • Learn about various SEND conditions, disability models, and how rights and support for people with SEND have evolved.

Unit 2: Equality and Diversity in SEND

  • Understand equality, diversity, legislation supporting SEND, safeguarding, and the benefits of an inclusive society for individuals with SEND.

Unit 3: Person-Centered Approaches for SEND

  • Learn about person-centered care, encouraging participation, and supporting well-being for individuals with SEND.

Unit 4: SEND and Learning

  • Understand inclusive learning, support programs, reasonable adjustments, and Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans.

Unit 5: Living with SEND

  • Explore neurodiversity, the impact of culture and society, stigma, and available support for individuals with SEND and their families.

Please note, this is a fully online course and you will be given access to an online portfolio upon successful completion of the initial assessment process.

 

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study, giving you the freedom to choose your learning schedule yourself whilst still gaining certification for your chosen subject.

We recommend spending a minimum of 2-4 hours per week on this course and we recommend completing within 12 weeks.

We appreciate this may be a new way of learning for many of you or there may be some further support required. If you find yourself feeling less than confident and look for additional support, we want to make sure we are there to offer that little bit extra and tailor it to your needs. This may include a phone call or emails with one of our dedicated tutors and support staff to help guide you through your course.
