Learner Voice

At SGS College, we place learners at the heart of everything we do and your voice truly matters. Our Voice of the Learner programme gives every student the opportunity to share feedback, shape college life and influence decisions that affect the whole community.

Whether it’s through your class, department, campus, or hustings forums, there are structured ways for you to raise your ideas, celebrate what works well and suggest improvements to all levels of the College.

The Voice of the Learner process follows a clear cycle of engagement, making sure your feedback is heard at every level:

  • Class Level – Students nominate Class Representatives who collect feedback from their peers during informal discussions and meetings.
  • Department Level – Class Reps meet with departmental staff and managers to discuss key issues and propose actions.
  • Campus Level – Department Reps bring wider themes and campus-specific issues to meetings chaired by Assistant Principals and senior staff.
  • Executive Hustings – Learners meet with members of the executive teams across all campuses to capture feedback and answer questions on matters of importance to learners.
  • Follow-Up – Outcomes and action plans are communicated back to learners at each level, ensuring transparency and accountability.

We also offer easy, digital ways to have your say at any time via our online E-Campus feedback form.

Alongside this formal structure, SGSPLUS+ runs inclusive Expression Groups and Committees, where students lead on key themes such as equality, diversity and inclusion. These groups ensure that all voices, including those from underrepresented communities, are heard, respected and acted on.

Learner Voice at SGS isn’t just about collecting opinions, it’s about empowering you to help shape the college’s culture, services and future. By taking part, you’ll develop valuable confidence, oracy and communication skills, in addition to civic awareness, all while making SGS a better place for everyone.

Learner Representatives

Becoming a learner representative is a great way to make a positive impact on your college community while developing your own confidence and leadership skills.

As a Class Representative, you’ll act as the voice of your peers, gathering feedback, raising ideas, and sharing concerns with staff to help improve the learner experience for everyone.

You’ll attend meetings at class, department and campus level, where you’ll work alongside other reps, senior staff, and the learner community to shape decisions and drive meaningful change.

It’s a rewarding role that builds your communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills and shows future employers or universities that you’re proactive and engaged in your community. At SGS, we value and support our learner reps as essential partners in making the college the best it can be.

Learner Leadership Team

At SGS College, our Learner Leadership Team Members are paid roles that bring together a group of motivated and passionate learners who want to lead on social activities and make a real difference to college life.

These teams work alongside staff and the learner community to champion learner voice, run social activities, drive campaigns, and support events that promote inclusion, wellbeing, and personal development across the college.

As part of a Learner Leadership Team, you’ll help shape priorities for your campus, contribute fresh ideas, and act as a role model for others.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership, teamwork, and organisational skills while leaving your mark on the SGS community. Together, the team plays a vital role in creating an environment where all learners can thrive.
