Summary
The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mastering the Art of Makeup is a new exciting and innovative two-year course for artists wishing to pursue a career in the Makeup Industry.
If you have a passion for makeup and a strong artistic ability, this specialist two-year qualification will equip you with the correct knowledge, understanding and skills required to be industry ready.
This course will not only understand the context of the industry, it will also develop and support your creative practical abilities to become a professional makeup artist. You will design and produce makeup across a range of areas including Photographic, Fashion, Media and Theatre production. You will have opportunities to collaborate with related industry students and experts, such as photographers, artists and fashion designers within the wider Art School.
You will cover a broad range of subjects including Avant Garde & High Fashion, Airbrush henna and body art, Creative fantasy hair design, Prosthetics & SFX, Theatrical & stage makeup, Photographic and bridal hair and makeup. The list is broad and exciting, and the possibilities are creatively wide ranging.

What do I need to join?
You will need to show passion, enthusiasm and commitment and have a portfolio of work to show at interview. You will need 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and/or Maths, or a Level 2 Diploma in Art Design with merit or distinction grades, and a proven record of attendance and engagement in English and Maths.
How will I learn?
You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments and sketchbook assignments. Experienced tutors will closely monitor and guide you through techniques to ensure you are meeting and exceeding industry standards as well as your creative potential. You will have personal, one-to-one tutorials to review your progress regularly.
Maths & English
A key requirement for obtaining many jobs is to achieve a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (C) will be enrolled on either a GCSE or functional skills programme alongside their course.
Employability
From this course, you can gain freelance employment in the theatre, TV, film and photographic industries. Other career paths include working with fashion and cosmetic companies as a promotional make-up artist.
Work Experience
It is vital that you gain work experience in this area through voluntary work or part-time employment to give you greater insight into the industry. You will also be involved in live projects within the College, including the launch of collaborative projects.
What can I do next?
You may go on to Degree studies in specialist Make-up or begin your career in entry level roles within the industry.
