We are delighted to announce that SGS has successfully achieved the matrix Standard accreditation, following a comprehensive external review of its learner journey support services, conducted between 24–26 March 2026.

This nationally recognised accreditation confirms the quality, consistency and impact of SGS's Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) provision, alongside the wide range of services that support learners throughout their time at the College.

Recognising the strength of our learner journey

The assessment reviewed the collective contribution of support services across SGS, including Customer Engagement, Careers, Additional Learning Support (ALS), Wellbeing & Safeguarding, Money Management, Industry Placements, Libraries, Tutorials & Enrichment, and DigiED.

Learner support at SGS

A key strength identified was the high level of collaboration between these services-particularly through the SOUL Group (Serving Our Unique Learner)-which ensures a consistent, joined-up approach to supporting learners from pre-induction through to progression.

The assessor noted that this coordinated approach is making a measurable difference, with support that is accessible, responsive and tailored to individual needs.

These insights reinforce the importance of ensuring every learner has access to the right support at the right time.

Supporting the SGS strategy

The findings support the College's strategic priorities of Community, Achievement, Readiness and Enjoyment, and highlight the vital role support services play in learner success.

While this accreditation formally recognises the quality of current provision, it also supports SGS's ongoing commitment to continuous improvement.

The report identifies further opportunities to enhance consistency, collaboration and impact across services. The accreditation will remain in place for three years, supported by annual Continuous Improvement Checks.
