SGS College’s Media Department, the Bristol Academy of Media, have an exciting opportunity for a Creative Media Lecturer, based at our Wise Campus. 

 

Bristol Academy of Media is housed in the new, state-of-the-art Brunel Centre, which is well equipped with a professional TV Studio, a large bank of high-quality audio-visual equipment, 5 Mac rooms, and Esports studio. We are looking to appoint a dynamic lecturer to join the BAM team, which has engaging and inspiring courses at Levels 1-3 in Film & TV Production, Sports Media, Animation & Visual Effects, Games Design, and Esports, as well as four Degree-level programmes.  

 

The successful applicant will deliver across our popular Level 1 and Level 2 vocational Creative Media programmes, with a view to co-leading and leading each programme respectively. We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable practitioner with a genuine passion for media production, who can inspire and engage students while developing their confidence, skills, and progression opportunities. This role places a strong emphasis on pastoral support, with the ability to build positive relationships and provide tailored guidance to meet individual learner needs, particularly those with SEND. Experience of working with diverse cohorts and adapting teaching approaches to ensure inclusive, supportive learning environments is highly desirable. A recognised teaching qualification is not essential, but candidates without one will be expected to work towards achieving it once in post.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Direct Delivery into the Level 1 and Level 2 Creative Media provision – co-leading Level 1, and leading the Level 2 course
  • Internal Quality Assurance and organisation of the qualification
  • Personal Tutor for learners
  • To undertake all forms of pedagogic work which may include classroom teaching, tutorial work and associated outreach duties, residential, open and distance learning courses and student placements. 
  • To ensure the associated organisational and administrative work, preparation and marking is undertaken. 
  • To provide the appropriate student welfare and academic/non-academic counselling responsibilities. 
  • To undertake an annual teaching workload of contact hours for category ‘A’ duties of 828 maximum to 761 minimum (pro rata for part-time) as detailed in the College workload agreement.
  • To conduct curriculum development work including identification of consumer requirements, planning, development and evaluation of courses and course materials.
  • To ensure the administration and management of subjects/units/modules of education and training, or of significant facets or subdivision of these, is carried out.
  • To support publicity and public relations work related to the College and to represent the department and College positively.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree-level or higher in a discipline relevant to media production - desirable
  • Advanced technical media skills (camerawork, sound, editing), developed enough to instruct students - desirable
  • Experience working with students/vulnerable adults with SEND - desirable
  • Experience of working in a further education environment – beneficial
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE / PCET / DET) – beneficial
  • Industry experience working in the media field –beneficial
