We are looking for a Maths Lecturer to join our Filton Team, with the potential to take on Team Leader responsibilities.

We deliver high quality Maths provision across a streamed GCSE model, enabling us to tailor learning, challenge our most able students, and provide targeted support for those who need it most. Maths sits at the heart of the SGS curriculum, playing a vital role in developing problem solving, analytical thinking, and employability skills that open doors for learners’ futures. Our lecturers work closely together to design engaging curricula, implement impactful interventions, and use data intelligently to monitor, evaluate, and celebrate progress over time.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to curriculum leadership within the department. For candidates taking on Team Leader responsibilities, this will include supporting the development of staff, shaping curriculum strategy, driving quality improvement, and modelling outstanding teaching and learning. You will help foster a culture of high expectations, reflective practice, and continuous improvement across the team.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging GCSE Maths lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners, ensuring strong progress and positive achievement outcomes.
  • Monitor, assess, and support learners’ development in Maths, providing clear feedback, targeted interventions, and tailored support to help learners achieve their potential.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across curriculum areas to support the development of learners’ numeracy, problem solving, and study skills within their wider programmes of learning.
  • Share best practice and innovative teaching, learning, and assessment strategies with the Maths team and wider staff to continuously enhance the quality of Maths delivery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of learners’ attendance, progress, and achievement, contributing to reviews, reports, and quality improvement activities within the department.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring programmes remain current, inclusive, and aligned with awarding body requirements and college priorities.
  • Where appropriate, undertake Team Leader responsibilities, including supporting colleagues, mentoring new staff, contributing to performance monitoring, and helping to drive consistency and high standards across the Maths provision.
  • Actively promote a positive, inclusive learning environment that motivates learners, supports behaviour for learning, and reflects the College’s values and expectations.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with learners in an educational or training setting, demonstrating the ability to inspire, challenge, and motivate students to achieve in Maths.
  • Educated to degree level in Mathematics or a related subject (or equivalent), or possessing substantial relevant subject knowledge and teaching experience in Maths.
  • Excellent communication, numeracy, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with learners, colleagues, and a range of stakeholders.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development, including working towards or holding a recognised teaching qualification at Level 7 (such as a PGCE in post 16 education, CertEd, or equivalent).
  • Adaptability and a learner centred approach, with the ability to meet a wide range of learning needs through inclusive teaching and effective differentiation.
  • Desirable: experience of curriculum leadership, mentoring, or supporting colleagues, demonstrating readiness to contribute to Team Leader responsibilities within the Maths department.
