Role Profile
An operations/departmental manager is
someone who manages teams and/or projects, achieving operational or departmental
goals and objectives as part of the delivery of the organisation’s strategy.
They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the
private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific
responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and
behaviours needed will be the same. Key responsibilities may include creating
and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams,
managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching
and mentoring.

Programme Delivery
SGS has elected to deliver the
on-programme learning using the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5
Diploma in Principles of Management and Leadership. The 8 units making up
this qualification are listed below.
The standard is assessed by a range of methods to meet all the knowledge, skills and behaviours. Evidence will be collated within a portfolio of evidence. To achieve the full Level 5, all 8 units of the Diploma must be passed, meeting all CMI assessment criteria. Attendance at a 2-day workshop for each module is mandatory for all apprentices.

Professional membership of the CMI is
included which gives access to resources on the CMI website. Further resources
will be available through Smart Assessor, the e-portfolio platform used by the
college for apprentices.
Assessment overview
The following sets out the key
assessment information for the End Point Assessment.
Achievement of the apprenticeship will depend on apprentices successfully completing a number of assessment activities. The methods used will ensure that the apprentice is assessed across the whole of the published Operations/Departmental Manager Standard.
All candidates must participate in all elements of the End Point Assessment and achieve a minimum of 50% for each component.

Manager Apprenticeship
A Standard contains a list of the skills,
knowledge and behaviors an apprentice will need to have learned by the end of
their apprenticeship. A portfolio will be compiled throughout the
apprenticeship to reflect this and will include evidence collated from the work
place such as, but not limited to; emails, letters, reports, presentations,
appraisal information, and witness testimonies.

20% Off-The-Job Training
“Off-the-job training is a
statutory requirement for an apprenticeship. It is training which is received by
the apprentice, during the apprentice’s normal working hours, for the purpose of
achieving the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship.”
In addition, there will be relevant activities in the workplace which will be discussed and planned with the assessor which will count towards the total hours required.
