The Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship is designed for those ready to build on their foundational knowledge and step into a more advanced role within the finance team. As an apprentice, you’ll gain practical experience and develop the skills needed to work within an accountancy practice or the finance function of an organisation. Your responsibilities will include assisting with day-to-day financial activities such as data entry, preparing month-end management accounts, and producing year-end financial statements. You’ll also learn how to handle regulatory requirements, including completing VAT returns and supporting tax computations. By the end of the program, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to take on more advanced finance roles and progress toward professional accountancy qualifications.

Maths & english
This apprenticeship requires learners to achieve maths and English at Level 2. Typically, it is realistic for learners to progress up one level during the apprenticeship. At interview, we will carry out an assessment to determine current literacy and numeracy levels. We will take account of any support needs in determining the suitability of learners for this apprenticeship.

When you begin this apprenticeship, your role will be working in a finance-related role, gaining hands-on experience alongside your studies. Typical positions include Assistant Accountant, Trainee Accounting Technician, Accounts Clerk, Purchase Ledger Clerk, Sales Ledger Clerk. These roles provide the perfect foundation for developing practical skills and progressing toward more senior opportunities in accounting and finance. Entry requirements
This course is a great next step for learners who have completed Level 2 or for those with prior experience in accountancy or finance and feel confident starting at a more advanced level. As an apprentice, you will need to be register with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) for your student membership. If you haven’t yet achieved a Level 2 qualification in Maths or English (or an equivalent), we provide free Functional Skills lessons alongside your apprenticeship to help you reach this important milestone. These sessions are designed to build confidence and strengthen your core skills, making you even more employable. For apprentices under 19, these lessons are a mandatory part of your journey ensuring you have a level 2 in Maths and/or English by the end of your programme.
