Entry into Pathways is an all-rounder course designed to focus on settling learners into the College environment by building confidence, self-esteem and encouraging individuality through learner-led activities. Learners will study a BTEC certificate in Vocational Studies, where they will undertake units around core employability skills such as team challenge, skills for learner, health and wellbeing in the workplace and more. The course will also encompass opportunities for developing independence and growth mindsets through the integration of trips and excursions, mini projects and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions!
The study programme will consist of a core BTEC qualification in Level E3 certificate in Entry to Vocational Study; GCSE English and Maths; mandatory tutorial sessions, Enrichment and Work Experience/Volunteering opportunities.
A key requirement for future progression and employment is a good understanding and application of knowledge and skills in both English and Maths. Learners who are enrolled on this course will also, as part of their overall programme of study, be enrolled onto GCSE English and Maths in our Progression groups to focus on achieving the next grade up.
As well as having a keen a willingness to learn, learners must possess GCSE grades U or 1 in both English and Maths. We will also ask you to complete an initial English and Maths assessment at the start of the year to gauge starting points
Learners who successfully complete the Entry Pathway course will be eligible for progression onto a Level 1 programme in the Pathways department or a L1 course in the wider college.
We aim to provide you with the core skills required to progress into further study, training or employment upon completion of your study programme. Key attributes required by employers are that individuals be enthusiastic, motivated, presentable (in some instances in company uniform), organised, articulate, able to think 'outside the box', business-like and enterprising, and that they have a 'can-do' attitude. We work on all these areas throughout the duration of your programme of study, and your tutor(s) will provide feedback on progress made, as well as areas for development.
You still have a chance to secure your place. Our Late Advice & Guidance interviews run from Monday 1st to Friday 5th September, and bookings will open on Thursday 21st August (GCSE Results Day).
