About the course

Did you know one in four adults in the UK experience a mental health issue each year? The most common is anxiety and depression, but many other conditions can affect a person's life and those around them.

Understanding mental health is important for anyone working with people who have mental health problems. It’s also helpful for those who want to better understand the causes, symptoms and management of these conditions.

This nationally recognised qualification is perfect for anyone wanting to learn more about mental health, whether for work, career goals or personal interest.

The course is divided into 13 manageable units:

  2. Understanding stress
  3. Understanding anxiety
  4. Understanding phobias
  5. Understanding depression
  6. Understanding post-natal depression
  7. Understanding bipolar disorder
  8. Understanding schizophrenia
  9. Understanding dementia
  10. Understanding eating disorders
  11. Understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  12. Understanding Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  13. Understanding Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Please note, this is a fully online course. You will have access to an online portfolio once you successfully complete the initial assessment.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study, giving you the freedom to choose your learning schedule yourself whilst still gaining certification for your chosen subject.

We recommend spending a minimum of 2-4 hours per week on this course and we recommend completing within 12 weeks.

We appreciate this may be a new way of learning for many of you or there may be some further support required. If you find yourself feeling less than confident and look for additional support, we want to make sure we are there to offer that little bit extra and tailor it to your needs. This may include a phone call or emails with one of our dedicated tutors and support staff to help guide you through your course.
