The Level 2 Introduction to Caring for Children & Young People course provides an introductory understanding of childcare, focusing on child development, the importance of play, healthy eating, and safeguarding. This online course is ideal for those looking to gain knowledge in childcare or for employees who need training in these key areas.
The course consists of five units:
Unit 1: Young Children’s Development
This unit covers the
stages of development from birth to three years, highlighting how positive
environments support children's growth.
Unit 2: The Value of Play to Young Children
Learners will
explore the importance of play in children's development and discover various
play activities suitable for children aged birth to five years.
Unit 3: Importance of Play for Early Learning
This unit
focuses on how creativity and imagination support child development, including
organizing activities like cooking and understanding the role of books and
stories.
Unit 4: Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young
People
Learners will review legislation, guidelines, and procedures
for safeguarding children, including e-safety, and learn how to respond to
emergencies or suspicions of abuse.
Unit 5: Use Food and Nutrition Information to Plan a Healthy
Diet
This unit teaches how to make healthy food choices for
children, understand food labels, and ensure children receive a balanced
diet.
This is a fully online course, and learners will gain access to an online portfolio upon completing the initial assessment.
Studying via distance learning means you can choose when and where you study, giving you the freedom to choose your learning schedule yourself whilst still gaining certification for your chosen subject.
We recommend spending a minimum of 2-4 hours per week on this course and we recommend completing within 12 weeks.

CloseThe Advanced Learner Loan assists adults aged 19 and over in covering tuition costs for Level 3 to Level 6 qualifications. Before applying, individuals are advised to check eligibility for free funding options, as taking the loan may impact future entitlements. Eligibility requires UK residency for at least three years or settled status. For those using the loan for an Access to HE course, the loan balance may be written off upon completion of a higher education degree. Additional eligibility criteria may apply.
CloseAdults aged 19 and over may be entitled to free tuition for their first Level 2 or first Level 3 qualification. In some cases, individuals may also qualify for funding when studying a second qualification at these levels, depending on their area of residency and the course level. CloseAdults aged 19 and over enrolled in a course with fees exceeding £50 may be eligible to pay through an instalment plan. This option allows the cost of the course to be spread out, making it more affordable. Additional eligibility criteria may apply.
CloseUK residents of at least three years may qualify if they are studying an eligible Level 3 course. Eligibility requires an annual income below £25,000 or receipt of an approved benefit that meets the criteria for the scheme. Additional eligibility criteria may apply.
CloseUnder the Local Flexibility offer, adults aged 19 and over may be eligible to access this course for free if they earn below a specified threshold, which is currently £25,000. Other qualifying criteria, such as being unemployed, may also apply. Additional eligibility criteria may apply.
