Embark on a creative adventure with the Artists Books course, where you will learn to develop visual journeys through the medium of sketchbooks.
This project-based course encourages you to explore different mediums and materials to build a personal visual diary inspired by your own experiences and imagination. With gentle guidance, you will work towards creating a unique artwork in book form. Throughout the course, you will be introduced to various techniques such as collage, basic printmaking, and different methods of mark making.

Our classes provide a nurturing and encouraging environment where you can learn and grow as an individual. The tutor will guide you through various techniques and projects, ensuring that you feel supported and empowered to express your creativity.
In this course, you will engage in a series of exercises designed to expand your artistic skills and creativity. Through hands-on exploration and experimentation, you will learn various techniques and approaches to develop your visual diary.
The tutor will provide one-on-one guidance and support, helping you to refine your ideas and navigate the creative process. The classes have a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, allowing you to work at your own pace and embrace new ideas and techniques.
Jack Duplock studied art at the Royal Academy School of art and has over 20 years’ experience as a practising artist. He is also a qualified teacher with experience teaching learners from various backgrounds and abilities. His teaching specialisms include collage, watercolour and acrylic techniques and drawing.
His work explores landscape and the figure. Working from photographs his work is based on both personal and found imagery. Currently he is working on a body of work that is influenced by the south west landscape of his childhood and where he now lives.
He has shown his work both in The UK and internationally. Notable exhibitions have included a recent solo show at the Agency Gallery London, group shows at Durden and Ray in Los Angeles and Kunstalboratorium Vestfossen , Norway. He has been included in New Contemporaries and John Moore painting prize. His work is in various private collections.
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the start of the academic year.
You don’t need to have any experience to join this course, however as part of our series of funded courses, you are limited to one course per term (excluding online, this can be an additional), students need to meet the criteria as set out below. The aim of the course is to improve your well-being, confidence, self-esteem, and creative and vocational skills whilst providing progression routes for your learning through support and guidance from your tutor.
These courses are for self-referring or referred patient/client, making the courses available to all. If you're experiencing conditions like stress, anxiety, depression, behaviour-related health issues, mental health, bereavement, chronic pain, or illness, joining us can provide a beneficial experience and a re-engagement into education or employment. If you have a support worker or have a condition we will need to be aware of, please let us know – there may be other specialised creative courses that are more suited to your needs from other health providers.
During your first session the tutor will spend some time with you 1:1 to support you with your declared needs to ensure we give you the best support and guidance during the course.
Enrolments for future course dates will be released towards the end of the current term, on the website and via your course tutor.
Each term runs for 10 or 11 weeks. When enrolments open, these dates will be released on the website under Creativity for Wellbeing.

CloseThe Advanced Learner Loan assists adults aged 19 and over in covering tuition costs for Level 3 to Level 6 qualifications. Before applying, individuals are advised to check eligibility for free funding options, as taking the loan may impact future entitlements.
