About the course

Make a beautiful stained-glass panel. This course is suitable for the absolute beginner (no experience is necessary) and those with some experience who want to develop their glass work. Beginners will be taken through a structured course, step by step, to include all the stages essential for making a leaded stained-glass panel. This will cover design, cut line drawings, selecting and cutting coloured glass, leading, soldering, cementing and finishing techniques. Continuing students can work on individual project work to develop their design and craft skills, as well as experiment with new techniques, e.g. fusing, copper foil, kiln-fired glass paint/stain/enamels. You will learn how to: Cut glass safely Shape glass to size with pliers Cut leads accurately Solder neatly Make a small piece of leaded stained glass Continuing students can experiment with new techniques

How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will be guided through your project, with demonstrations at each stage. You will get lots of one-to-one support to help you make your beautiful glass panel. More experienced students will have the support and expertise of the tutor to take on larger, more complex projects. This course is held at our Stroud Campus, GL5 4AH and at the The Hub Academy, Unit 1-3 Hope Mill Business centre, Hope Mill Lane, Stroud, GL5 2SE
About the tutor
Ruth Adams taught fired stained-glass painting at Central Saint Martins, where she previously completed her postgraduate studies in glass with distinction. She taught stained glass for ten years at the City Literary Institute in Central London. Ruth relocated to Stroud, where she works as a practicing artist, and she set up the glass department within the Arts School. She is a respected educator, with an enormous amount of experience and enthusiasm to help you engage with this fantastic subject.
What do I need to join
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age at the start of the academic year, and this course is suitable for all levels of ability.

Additional information
This course is suitable for all ability levels will allow you to plan and create an A3 stained glass panel, from start to finish. You will learn at all stages, including how to cut glass safely, shape glass with pliers, solder neatly, and make leaded stained glass.
