About the course

Join our Ceramics Introduction to Earthenware and Use of Slip course, led by Gina Baum, as we delve into the rich tradition of British slipware. This one-day course will explore the techniques of hand-building with earthenware clay and decorating with coloured slip. Through demonstrations and personalised support, Gina will guide you in this fun and interactive course, encouraging experimentation and understanding of materials. You will have the opportunity to create contemporary finishes using various slip application methods, such as marbling, trailing, layering, stamping, imprinting, and sgraffito. Your creations will be fired at the end of the course, and arrangements for collection will be made later.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
Throughout the course, Gina will demonstrate techniques and provide individual guidance as you explore the possibilities of earthenware and slip. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on experimentation, allowing you to play with materials, understand their limits, and discover the next steps in your creative process. You are encouraged to come prepared for a potentially messy experience and wear clothing that can get dirty. Don't forget to bring a notebook or sketchbook to record ideas and glazing details.
