This course provides a solid foundation for exciting and varied career paths in fields such as mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, and beyond. It is specifically designed for individuals looking to return to education or make a career change into the world of engineering and applied sciences.
You will study a range of academic subjects essential to success in higher-level engineering programmes. These include:
The programme includes 45 graded credits in core academic subjects such as maths and physics, and 15 ungraded credits focused on developing your study skills, assignment planning, critical thinking, and academic writing. The curriculum is designed to build your confidence and competence in tackling engineering-related problems, scientific reasoning, and analytical tasks.
This one year course runs from September to June and follows a blended learning model, with three days per week spent in college and one day of structured online learning.
The course is delivered through classroom-based lessons, lab work, group projects, and guided self-study. Assessment is continuous and takes the form of written assignments, practical tasks, and presentations. Each unit is designed to help you develop both subject knowledge and transferable academic skills that are vital for university study. You will receive regular feedback and support from your tutors throughout the programme.

Upon successful completion of the Access to Engineering course, you will be eligible to apply for a wide range of university degree programmes in areas such as mechanical, civil, electrical, aerospace, chemical, or environmental engineering.
You may also pursue foundation degrees or higher apprenticeships in technical or engineering disciplines. This qualification opens doors to both academic and professional pathways in private industry, public sector organisations, research, and development.

Before applying, individuals are advised to check eligibility for free funding options, as taking the loan may impact future entitlements.
