About the course

This Level 3 Diploma in Sports Studies has been specifically designed to give individuals a broad understanding of Sports Studies, whilst retaking a single GCSE qualification in either English or maths. This course has been tailored to give learners an opportunity to progress onto Higher Education Sports programmes or gain employment in the sporting industry. This is a full-time course, equivalent to 2 A-Levels. Over the course of the programme, learners will have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications alongside their main course of study, to give them a fantastic opportunity to gain employment in the sporting industry.

Course content
This course has been tailored to give learners an opportunity to progress onto degree programmes in Sport or employment in the sporting industry. This is a full-time course. This course will cover some of the study topics below: Anatomy and Physiology Technical & Tactical Skills in Sport Practical Team Sport Sports Nutrition Psychology Fitness Testing Sports Coaching Physiology of Fitness Exercise, Health and Lifestyle Current Issues in Sport Careers in Sport and Physical Activity Work Experience in Sport The Athlete’s Lifestyle Sports Injuries Applied Strength and Conditioning Practical Individual Sports
Maths & English
Learners will have English or Maths lectures embedded into their timetable to support their academic development over the programme’s duration. Learners will resit either their GCSE Maths or English Qualification.
What do I need to join
Applicants will need a GCSE grade 4 in either English or Maths. Applicants will retake a GCSE qualification in either English or maths alongside, to give them an opportunity to achieve a 4 grade in the subject
What can I do next
A high majority of our learner’s progress onto Higher Education sports programmes or gain employment in the sports industry. Following the successful completion of this qualification, learners could also apply for L4 apprenticeships in the related field. Employment options after achievement can range from becoming a sports coach, to becoming involved in sports psychology or sports analysis, once degree level qualifications have been completed in these relevant fields. Learners may also consider starting specific coaching qualifications with National Governing Bodies upon completion of this course.
Additional information
Learners are able to access Sports Academies whilst studying at SGS College on a full-time course. Your academic studies and academy training work as a partnership, and as such, are never timetabled at the same time. This allows you to continue your development within your selected sporting discipline, whilst studying in an academic area that interests you. For example, a learner may have lectures on a Monday morning and then Academy training at WISE on a Monday afternoon. It is not compulsory to be in an Academy to study a Sports qualification at SGS College.
