As a Level 4 Sports Coach, you’ll go beyond delivering sessions—you’ll lead, mentor, and design impactful coaching programmes. You’ll develop advanced skills in performance analysis, inclusive practice, and leadership, preparing you to influence athletes, schools, and communities at a strategic level.

This apprenticeship standard has three coaching pathways;

  • School Sport Coach
  • Community Sport Coach
  • High Performance Coach

What do I need to join

This apprenticeship requires learners to achieve maths and English at Level 2 and typically have coaching experience and relevant qualifications. At interview, we will carry out an assessment to determine current literacy and numeracy levels. We will take account of any support needs in determining the suitability of learners for this apprenticeship.

Career opportunities

Following the completion of the Sport Coach Apprenticeship you can find a role as a School Sport Coach; Community coach; Performance/pathway/podium coach; Talent development coach; Sports Development Officer; Coaching Coordinator. Learners will also be able to apply for CIMSPA coach practitioner membership.
