SGS College is celebrating national recognition for two Access to Higher Education students who have been recognised at this year's prestigious Ascentis Learner Awards.

The annual awards celebrate exceptional achievements from students across colleges and education providers throughout the UK, recognising individuals whose dedication, resilience and commitment to their studies have made a significant impact.

Jade Holland wins Outstanding Commitment Award

SGS College student Jade Holland was named winner of the Outstanding Commitment Award in recognition of her extraordinary journey, determination and resilience throughout her studies.

Returning to education as a mature student, Jade has overcome significant personal challenges and shown incredible courage and commitment to building a positive future. Throughout her time at SGS College, she has embraced every opportunity to develop academically and personally, while using her own experiences to support and inspire others.

The SGS College Access Team nominated Jade for the award, recognising her perseverance, personal growth and dedication to achieving her ambitions.

Jade is now preparing to begin a degree in Criminology with Psychology at the University of Gloucestershire.

The SGS College Access Team said:

"We are incredibly proud that Jade is the recipient of the Outstanding Commitment Award. Her journey is one of courage, resilience and transformation. Over the past two years, we have watched her grow into a confident, articulate and highly capable student whose determination to succeed, both academically and personally, has been truly inspiring. This award is thoroughly deserved and we look forward to seeing all she achieves at university and beyond."

Jade said:

"This moment has touched me more deeply than I can say. Every candidate is a winner in my eyes, each carrying their own story of strength. My deepest thanks go to the judges, my tutors and SGS College for giving me the space to grow. I feel honoured, privileged and profoundly grateful."

One of the Ascentis judges described Jade's story as "inspirational", praising her courage, resilience and determination and recognising her as a deserving recipient of the award.

Emily Hockerday recognised for academic achievement

SGS College is also celebrating the success of Emily Hockerday, an Access to Science student, who was named a finalist in the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award category.

Emily was recognised for her exceptional academic performance, intellectual curiosity and dedication to her studies. Her tutors praised her as "one of the most exceptional students" they had encountered, highlighting her achievement of gaining 45 distinctions across three demanding subjects.

Emily is now preparing to begin a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath, building on the success she achieved during her Access to Higher Education course.

As a finalist, Emily also received a certificate of recognition and a cash prize from Ascentis.

The achievements of Jade and Emily highlight the transformative impact of SGS College's Access to Higher Education programmes, which provide students with the qualifications, confidence and skills needed to progress to university, further study and rewarding careers.

Everyone at SGS College is incredibly proud of Jade and Emily's achievements. Their determination, resilience and success are an inspiration to our College community and a powerful reminder of the opportunities education can create.
